Course Overview
This ethics workshop will provide leaders with an opportunity to discuss, evaluate, and solidify their own beliefs and values while learning with reference to others, particularly when two virtues conflict. The challenge may not be to determine the right course of action but to determine how one goes about building a foundation upon which an ethical course of action is the one taken routinely.
The workshop will begin with a short lecture, followed by group discussion on the chapters and case studies found in The Ethics Training Workbook. Like our Leadership Boot Camp Experience, attendence at our Ethics Training Workshop is limited to 12 people to allow for ample group discussion time and individual attention.
Participants will receive a copy of Inspiring Leadership: Character and Ethics Matter and an accompanying workbook. The workbook will be used as material during the six hour session to permit attendees to review and discuss nine business case studies related to ethical dilemmas.
Background for Ethics Training
Ethics training has been clearly identified as an important component in countering unethical behavior in organizations. As a matter of fact, the Sarbanes-Oxley Act leaves little doubt as to the mandatory requirement for ethics awareness within an organization. As a result, there has been a widespread and sharp increase in the number of organizations that have developed some form of ethics training as part of their developmental plan. Moreover, training in ethics now occurs in both academic and business settings that offer courses that concentrate on social responsibility and business ethics. Although the content of these courses varies greatly, the best programs seem to focus on ethical awareness and ethical reasoning.
Ethical awareness seminars and workshops tend to focus on increasing sensitivity to ethical dilemmas that are work related; however, ethical reasoning material is more in line with learning strategies for solving ethical dilemmas. A Facilitator's Guide has been developed to assist organizations conduct in-house ethics training using the Inspiring Leadership: Character and Ethics Matter Ethics Training Workbook.
